I. Poor Adhesion to the Base Surface
Specific Phenomena: The coating fails to adhere to the base, blisters form, or the bonding strength is insufficient.
Prevention and Control Measures:
- The base surface must be thoroughly cleaned.
- Check the strength of the base surface; it must not be sandy, peeling, or loose.
- For water-soluble coatings, there must be no standing water on the surface.
- For solvent-based coatings, the base surface must be completely dry.
- The first coat must use a primer.
II. Uneven Thickness
Specific Phenomena: After the coating film forms, the thickness is inconsistent.
Prevention and Control Measures:
- The base surface must be level and free of holes.
- The coating must be applied in multiple coats to form the film.
- Adjust the consistency of the coating according to time and site conditions.
III. Formation of Lumps
Specific Phenomena: Lumps are present in the coating, or small particles are found in the film after application.
Prevention and Control Measures:
- Do not use expired coatings or coatings that have exceeded their pot life after mixing.
- Inadequate manual or mechanical mixing of two-component materials; inspect the mixture carefully.
- Using unclean mixing buckets; ensure proper cleaning of mixing containers.
- Incorrect mixing ratio; follow the correct proportioning strictly.
IV. Coating Delamination
Specific Phenomena: Delamination occurs after the film forms, or blisters appear between coating layers.
Prevention and Control Measures:
- Inadequate cleaning before each coat during the multi-coat application process.
- The previous waterproof film has not dried completely before the next coat is applied.
V. Film Cracking After Waterproofing Completion
Specific Causes:
- The base surface was not properly cleaned and contains a large amount of loose dust.
- A single coat is applied too thickly, causing uneven moisture evaporation during drying and resulting in cracking.
- Outdoor construction in adverse weather conditions such as strong winds can easily cause cracking.
Prevention and Control Measures:
- Remove loose dust from the base before application, treat the surface with a primer, and apply multiple thin coats.
- Avoid outdoor construction during windy weather.
VI. 'Bean Curd Residue' Phenomenon in Waterproof Coating
Specific Cause: Excessive water is added to the coating, causing separation of the liquid and powder components, with the powder settling to the bottom, resembling bean curd residue.
Prevention and Control Measures: Control the amount of water added and follow the product instructions strictly for proportioning.
